A DIFFERENT
PERSPECTIVE TO CHILDREN’S ROOM TO GIVE THEM A MORE USEFUL WAY TO STUDY by Serhat Gümüş
According
to the recent personal observations of teachers, students understand the reason
why they come to school much later. Accordingly, they think about a future
profession for themselves when it is too late. While the students of the years
before 2000 thought about what they wanted to be in the future starting in
their early ages, students of today do not have any specific or desired ideas
about what they want to be.
Back in
time, when students were asked about what they wanted to be they gave specific
answers by saying that they want to be a police officer because they want to
protect community, by saying that they wanted to be a vet because there are a
lot of unattended animals on streets or by saying that they wanted to be a
businessman to buy and sell stuff and etc. Starting from their early ages such
as seven or eight years old, they knew the reason why they came to school and
they felt interested in some specific professions and their minds were set for
these kinds of purposes and it really helped them during their years of
education because at least they had something in their minds and they were more
likely to focus better on their education than the ones who had never thought
about these things.
Today, we
you ask small age groups of students about why they come to school and what
they want to be in the future they say that they come to school because their
parents tell them to do so and also they do not have a clear answer about what
they would like to be in the future.
Children’s separated rooms must not be more
than a bedroom.

So, what is
the reason of this negative change? The answer is quite simple: Time. So, let’s
have a look at the past. How did the students use to study? Back then students’
discipline was much stronger because they did not have a matter of space. They
used to study anywhere such as living room and kitchen and they did not have
cell phones, internet and etc which distract and keep the students away from
their studies today. In other words, studying was integrated in their daily
lives. But today, most of the students have a separated room at home and they
think that their rooms are for studying. Even parents send their children to
their room when they what them to do their homework. Well, it is a wrong
behavior to think that children’s separated rooms are for studying. On the contrary, children’s separated rooms
must not be more than a bedroom. It must
be a place to rest, relax, do some spare time activities and sleep. For
example, parents’ room is the bedroom but do they go to their bedrooms to work
on some reports that are necessary for the other day in the office? Mother cook
in the kitchen, not in the bedroom or when they want to find and take note of a
new recipe they do not specifically go to their bedroom to do it. They simply
do it wherever they are without moving somewhere else. When the parents need to
make some online payments or shopping they do not leave the living room and
they do not go to their bedroom to do it. So, why should we expect the children
to go to their bedrooms and study there? If children have to study, they should
study in the living room. They should study on the couch, around the table that
they eat their food or on the carpet.
Sending children to their rooms to study blocks
the way of communication between parents and children.

In this
way, children won’t be lost in a room which has a lot of things to keep them
away from his studies such as computers, cell phones, internet and etc. And
they will enjoy and like their rooms more. Following this new method also gives
courage and freedom. It gives some new opportunities to parents to communicate
with their children by learning something from their children’s studies. There
becomes an increase in the children’s exam marks, as well.
In order to balance study time and self
entertainment time, you are advised to read the article named ANOTHER POINT
OF VIEW FOR CHILDREN’S INTERNET ADDICTION in which you can find original ways
to make your children’s studies more effective.
